DeWalt DWD115K Strengths & Weaknesses:

Design BalanceSuperior Design Balance - Receives excellent or very good ratings for all critical design features. Power, speed, wood and metal capacity are all rated equal or higher than the average electric drill.
PowerPowerful - Motor is rated at 8 amps, about 20% higher than the average 3/8" electric drill. Ranks in the top 12% of its class for power.
SpeedFast - Runs at speeds up to 2500 RPM, about 28% faster than the average corded power drill with a 3/8" chuck. The DeWalt DWD115K ranks in the top 50% of its class for speed.
Weight Heavier Than Average - Weighs 4.1 lbs, about 1% heavier than the class average. Heavier drills are often more durable, but operator fatgue can be an issue if you use it for long periods of time.
Wood Capacity Standard Wood Capacity - This DeWalt electric drill can bore up to 1" holes using a spade bit. Most power drills with a 3/8" chuck have a 1" maximum hole capacity when drilling through wood.
Metal Capacity Average Metal Capacity - Bores holes in metal up to 0.375" using a twist bit. This capacity is standard for most electric drills in this size class.
User RatingsHighly Satisfied Users - Rated 4.5 of 5 stars by 32 users. Most owners are very satisfied with the performance and value of this corded drill and would recommend it to others.
Power RatioHigh Power-to-Weight - Ranks in the top 12% of its class for power-to-weight ratio, about 18% higher than average. Higher power-to-weight usually indicates a more efficient design.
Gear Case Part-Nylon Gear Case - Some or all of the gear case is made with nylon. Plastic is obviously less durable than metal, but it decreases the drill weight which may be more important in some applications.
Gear Reduction Single Reduction - Single gear systems generally produce less torque for the same amperage class. The gears perform less efficiently at low speeds compared to a double system design.
Motor Brushes No External Access - The motor brushes on this DeWalt electric drill can only be accessed internally by taking the drill apart. External access makes the replacement job much easier.
WarrantyLonger Warranty - Backed by DeWalt's limited 3-year warranty. This provides extra protection against potential design defects or premature part failure.
Bit Change Keyless Two Hand - The double-sleeve chuck does not have auto spindle lock and requires two hands to unlock the chuck. Many keyless drills now have one hand bit changing capability.
Belt HookBelt Hook - Handy feature that allows you to temporarily hang this power drill from your belt or a ladder while you're performing other tasks.
Side Handle No Side Handle - A side handle can provide stable support when drilling and driving larger bits and screws where additional torque is required. Two-handed operation helps reduce operator error or injuries.

DeWalt DWD115K User Reviews Highlights

  • On the plus side the drill has MASSIVE power and torque! I was able to put a 4.5" hole saw and went through the wood block in no time at all with no stalling or overheating.

  • Heavy Duty Drill...for a great price.

  • This is the most power little 3/8 drill I could find. It works perfectly, The mid handle design makes this a well balanced tool.

  • Sometimes the Keyless Chuck releases and you have to manually tighten it again, that is the only negative issue.

  • I bought this drill mostly for pre drilling and driving screws. It does a great job at that and is well balanced and light.

  • Powerful drill, pleasure to use, but annoying forward-reverse selector design.

  • Well balanced, weight wise...Doesn't create fatigue.

  • I was thrilled to use it when drilling holes for a small project. Just a thrill to drill. I recommend it.

  • The mid-handle grip really helps to control the direction. It's not as heavy as I expected, either.

  • I like the drill very much because it has the center handle and balancing is easier.
